Everest High Passes Trek starts and ends in Lukla. First, you will trek to the popular Namche Bazaar from Lukla. Similarly, from Namche, the next major attraction will be Gokyo Valley crossing Thame, Lungden, and Renjo La Pass. The trek continues from Gokyo to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar crossing Cho La Pass. You will be already crossing two major passes with a visit to EBC and Kala Pathhar. Then, while returning the trail takes you through Kongma La Pass, Chukkung, Tengboche, Namche, and finally ends in Lukla. However, you can change the itinerary or route as per your wish. Both, clockwise and anti-clockwise route is possible in this Everest Three High Passes Trek.
Everest Three High Passes Trek Difficulty Level
The Everest High Passes Trek is a popular trekking trail but physically demanding as well. If you are an experienced trekker above 5000 meters, then you will not have much trouble. Nevertheless, if you are a novice then you may find it difficult to complete. The trek contains three passes above 5000 meters. In addition, hiking to Kala Pathhar at 5555 meters is another challenging part. Therefore, if you are a novice trekker, this trek is not for you without any proper preparation. Even experienced trekkers can find it difficult without proper preparation.

Tour Plan

When you arrive in Kathmandu at Tribhuwan International Airport, we will pick you up from the international terminal and transfer you to your hotel in a private vehicle.

We will have two major things to do today. Tour around UNESCO world heritage sites and trek preparation at the end of the day. A professional tour guide will take you to major UNESCO world heritage sites of Kathmandu Valley, including Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. After completing the tour, we will discuss the trek in our office, check the gear, introduce the guide, and be ready for the next day.

Everest Three High Passes Trek starts with a 45-minute scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. However, in peak trekking season, the flight operated from Manthali Airport Ramechap. To get to Ramechap, we need to take a sharing vehicle early in the morning around 2 a.m. on our flight-scheduled day. After reaching Manthali Airport, we catch the flight and head to Lukla. From Lukla, we gather up together once again and begin to walk to Phakding. Crossing a few suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River, we reach Phakding. Overnight stay at Phakding.

We start the day from Phakding heading north along the Dudh Koshi River. After crossing Monjo, we also enter the Sagarmatha National Park. The trek continues through the forest until we reach Namche Bazaar to stay overnight.

The first acclimatization of our trip will be at Namche Bazaar. We suggest exploring Namche Bazaar or hiking to Khumjung Village. However, you will also have the option of hiking to the Everest View Hotel to enjoy amazing views of Mt. Everest.

The walk begins following the river of Bhote Koshi and crosses the rhododendron forest. You can see stupas and Gompa along the way. Overnight stay at Thame.

Today, most of the time, we will trek through the villages enjoying the views of mountains and landscapes. The trek continues passing Taranga and Marlung village (4200m) before we reach Lungden. If you have free time, you can visit Nakpa Valley. Otherwise, Cho Relmo Lake is also an ideal option. Overnight stay at Lungden.

We will cross the first pass of our trek today. Leaving Lungden, our next destination will be Gokyo today via Renjo La Pass (5446m). The pass delivers stunning views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, and Mt. Lhotse. Moreover, you will get to see beautiful Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Village. We will stay overnight at Gokyo Valley.

Our second acclimatization day allows you to climb Gokyo Ri and enjoy mesmerizing views of the Everest Region. The vantage point offers outstanding views of Cho Oyu, Everest, Makalu, Nuptse, and Lhotse. In addition, the view of Ngozumpa Glacier from the Gokyo Ri is a beautiful sight to enjoy. Today, we move ahead from Gokyo to Thanknag crossing Ngozumpa glacier in the beginning. However, the trail is quite tricky with many difficulties. Next, walking down the valley, the trail continues to the eastern glacial moraine. The trek continues until we reach Thaknag

As the trek continues, you have to face more challenges. The trail leads us through some rocky trail and glacial moraine. Nevertheless, you will cross Cho La Pass witnessing the views of the Himalayas. Trek may be difficult today but the views are mind-blowing. Overnight stay at Dzongla.

After having breakfast, we start the day following Moraine and descend. We will join the Everest Base Camp Trekking trail today. You will trek through Chola Lake in the beginning and follow the path of Imja Khola to arrive at Lobuche. Overnight stay at Lobuche.

On your 13th day of the trip, you will reach Everest Base Camp today. The hike starts following the route of the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. Carrying our baggage to EBC is not possible, so we leave at Gorakshep and move ahead. You can find many other fellow trekkers or mountaineers en route to Everest Base Camp. Reaching EBC is quite an achievement for you. We will hike down to Gorakshep to stay overnight.

Another day of exciting trek to enjoy the 360-degree views of the highest mountains. We wake up early in the morning around 2-3 a.m. and hike to Kalapatthar to see a sunrise view from Kala Patthar. The close-up views of Mt. Everest from the point is mesmerizing. Next, we hike down to Gorakshep and trek to Lobuche.

After walking regularly for 6-7 hours for two previous days, your body might be fatigued. However, we have one last pass to cover today i.e. Kongma La Pass. The trail is easy dotted with frozen lakes. The pass offers dazzling views of Ama Dablam, Makalu, Baruntse, and Lhtose Sar. Crossing the pass, we descend to Nigyang Valley to proceed towards Chukkung. Overnight stay at Chukkung Valley

Today, we follow the trail of Imja Khola Valley and descend to Dingboche. Next, from Dingboche, we arrive at the village of Pangboche. The journey to Pangboche goes through different potato fields and alpine pastures. Arriving in Tengboche, you will pay a visit to the oldest Monastery of the Khumbu Region-Tengboche Monastery. Overnight stay at Tengboche.

OAnother pleasant day of walking from Tengboche passing the rhododendron forest. You will also be able to see Himalayan wildlife like musk deer, pheasant, and mountain goats. The trek continues until Namche and we will stay overnight here.

This will be the final day of your trek to the highest passes of the Everest Region. You will descend on a steep trail and cross many suspension bridges along the journey. In addition, we cross several villages like Phakding to reach Lukla. You can have a small celebration with your team at the end of the day for your successful trip. Overnight stay at Lukla.

We will fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla today. Either the flight will depart to Kathmandu or Manthali, it depends on the air traffic at Kathmandu airport. If the flight departs for Manthali, we will take a shared vehicle from Manthali airport to get back to Kathmandu.

What is the best time to do the Everest Three High Passes Trek?
Just like other Trekking in Nepal, the best time to do the Everest Three High Passes Trek is the spring and autumn seasons. The season of spring provides moderate temperature that ranges from 10-20 degrees Celsius. Although it remains dry throughout the season, it offers perfect picturesque views of mountains. Likewise, the season of autumn provides cloudless views of green hills and mountains. The temperature remains between -3 to 22 degrees Celsius. In addition, the autumn season is popular for major festivals in Nepal. So, choose your time wisely. Note: Weather in the Upper part of the Everest region is Unpredictable. So, always be prepared for any unforeseen situations.
